I may be an idiot but I have looked through the manuals and gone on line t o figure out how to map the controls on my fantom to Reason, or any other program for that matter. I saw a couple of lame videos on Youtube but they only show how to make the initial midi connection. What the hell am I doing wrong?
Ok, so we have two ways outta here, there is hole "A" or "B" what way you heading? Me? I'm taking the A hole.

Midi controls as in your keys (possible) to trigger instruments (Master Keyboard)?

Install driver and setup the Fantom in Reason as a Keyboard (No Controls).
I saw a girl texting & driving the other day & it really made me mad, so I rolled down my window & threw my whiskey flask at her.

I already did that. It just wont let me control the program the way I want it to, I want it to be able to start stop, control the filters, run Kong from the pads etc..thanks for the reply

Check page 51 of your manual. This will tell you how to assign CC values to your knobs. Setup the Fantom as a Keyboard w/ Controls. You should in theory be able to Remote Override parameters in Reason.

Transport control maybe with Midi Machine Control (MMC). It is possible to map the pads to anything.

Pads is possible as well. You just have to map them properly. You have to set the Base Note (Using the Pads - section of the manual).

Ok, I must be a dumbe ass. I spent half the day Saturday trying everything that I could think of and I could only get certain things to be controled. Like the pads, the 1st pad will not change to my 1st pad on the Kong. Also, page 51 does not have midi info on it. I have an Fantom x not G. Maybe thats for the G? I cant get the transport controls to work at all. Funny thing, I can start and stop with the assignable button #1?

I thought I was pretty versed in midi. Im not sure what Im missing? The DVD tutorials are bullshit and dont tell you shit about settings for midi and a bunch of other crap. Ive found most everything by trial and error.
So, WTF am I doing wrong? My real goal is to be able to use my Fantom to control Kong like a groovebox.

Shouldn't reason have a learn function? You should be able to click "learn" move one of the knobs, then hit ok & your knobs should be mapped (I don't own reason).

As far as the pads go, they're just mapped to midi notes. Hit record, then tap all your pads one after the other. Hit stop & reason should tell you what notes you are hitting. Whatever instrument you are playing, just have them respond to those notes.

Might also be useful to get a MIDI monitoring application (like MidiPipe - there's plenty of these) so you can see which controls the Fantom is actually sending out.

The best way to control Reason is by using Control Remote, this consists of two file types, Remote codecs (that define the controls of your device) and Remote Maps (that allow you to map parameters to those controls) and if your keyboard does not have a specific Control Remote, it is possible to copy and modify a similar Control Remote in order to create your own.
