chaining 2 midi controllers to control one DAW?

i currently have a novation 25 sl mkII, using it to control reason 6. i want to get a cheap 16 pad controller for the kong device.

ok i know how to make both devices work if i hook each to my computer thru usb ports. i want to know if i use the pad controller's midi out into the sl's midi in, so that only the keyboard is connected via usb, will this work? can i make the pad control and the SL behave as one device by chaining them?
