triggering a drum machine---can this be done with anything?

I have a question about using trigger inputs on a drum machine, like the Vermona drum synthesizer. Do I have to use another drum machine to trigger the triggered drum machine (i.e., Vermona)? I was hoping some other sequencers might just as well, like the Roland MC units. If I have to use a drum machine, are there any recommendations for a cheap unit with multiple audio outputs at least 4 that has a sequencer which can be programmed in real-time (versus step)? I see that the Jomox drum machines have something like 10 outputs, but those are pretty pricey---I am hoping to find something around $100...I'm only using it for its sequencer and to trigger the Vermona.

Thanks for your help...my current drum machine (made by Zoom...Sb-246 I think) is way down the evolutionary scale compared to using multiple outputs to trigger a separate machine, so I appreciate any advice you have.
