The problem is that you need to learn all this stuff!

    Do NOT give up!

You are most likely not plugging things correctly together.

It takes TIME and PRACTICE to get all this stuff to work.

"no sound came from any of the keyboards"

Do you have all of them plugged to a MIXER using audio cables? ... MIDI does not carry audio signals and is really a "remote control" system to control all your synthesizers and modules from the MPC

There are modes to switch, things to configure, etc etc

    BUT GOOD NEWS IS:
YOU FOUND THE RIGHT PLACE TO LEARN ALL OF THIS

Don't get upset at the equipment, it will be just harder to stay focused and learn

Post DETAILED explanations of what you are trying to do and what you have (including mixer, etc)

I will do my best to help you, and so will everyone else here

Let's get it all to WORK!

yea man, It sounds like you just don't know your gear. Take a little more time and do a little reading in the manual or about midi and ask some more specific questions.
Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity... MLK

You have great gear (mpc2000, motif, xp-50 and kurzweil)

    Definitely nothing wrong with those.

Actually you would have the exact same problems with any other gear - you are describing problems where you are obviously not connecting the system correctly

What are you trying to do exactly? I know you already replied, but you didn't really say what you wanted to do

Here is why I am asking... All 4 pieces of equipment you mentioned have a sequencer built-in... At least to get started and figure things out, you need to pick ONE of these as the sequencer.

(a sequencer is where you record all your MIDI events / notes, and "control" the rest of your setup)

After picking one piece to sequence the rest, let's say for example the MPC2000XL, you need to make sure the other pieces are configured correctly for MULTI TIMBRALITY

this means that the motif, the xp-50, and the Kurtzweil will be able to be TRIGGERED / SEQUENCED with manys ounds at once, on separate MIDI channels

Note that this is called differently on various gear... On the XV-3080 I had it was called PERFORMANCE mode, etc... Look for something like this on each piece

(as i said it takes TIME to figure it all out)

ok then you need to wire up your sequencer with the other pieces via MIDI - this will NOT send audio signals, but it will CONTROL REMOTELY the pieces from the MPC2000xl

Then you need to connect all these pieces to a MIXER... otherwise you will not "hear" anything (thats what you described, its actually a common mistake!).. using AUDIO cables this time

You also need a pair of speakers or a hi-fi stereo at least, connected to the output of the MIXER

This is only the beginning though... Do you want to make music? You will have to learn all of this...

I am actually preparing a tutorial on connecting sequencers like the MPCs to other pieces of gear, get it all connected and ready to use.

There are 100,000's of messages posted on FP already... use the SEARCH feature and learn learn lear

good luck I hope this helps

yeah. You will need to learn MIDI eventually. The MPC is the MIDI workhorse.
