would you really trade your MPC4000 for a 2000 XL? ... I think Melle was kidding

I wish you the best with whatever setup you end up being comfortable with... Just know that thousands of people use these machines and do not have the issues you mentioned. Know also that (Again) people dedicate a lot of time and energy getting to learn a particular musical instrument.

    nah man
    corss i wouldent

yeh man, it duz take time to master sumthing.
just spent like 3 hours on my mp and itsa luvly machine (when it dosent fu*k up). though iam still having that sanre problem.

i really dont think my machine is faulty mano. perhaps its the 16mb ram. maybee it cant handle the over excessive use of reverb.

    thanx again

what set-up do u hav by the way? and what kinda beats u making? i really agree with your "music is personal" thoght there.

    Well samplers-wise I have a few:

Akai MPC1000 (all my sequencing, drum sampling, phrase sampling - I do a lot of phrase sampling)

EMU E5000 Ultra (I use it mainly as a sound module, loading complex instruments from CD/hard drive, and for building complex instruments)

CASIO SK-1 (tony toy sampler from 1986 - 8 Bit, 4Khz, 1 second of sampling - and I am not joking... I use this thing on pretty much every project)

I also occasionally use KONTAKT, but I generally like starting projects independently from the computer. I use the computer for final arrangement/editing of multitracked songs (Cubase SX 2). I do my initial multitracking outside of the computer using a hardware recorder actually... I just love the immediacity of it (flip a switch, press a button, and its recorded without a glitch).

    That's part of my setup.

What I compose goes from beats to full orchestrations, not always with drums. Genre-wise I touch everything from Dark Orchestral to 70's-ish new age (Jarre, Vangelis, etc) to Trip Hop and Hip Hop. I like blending classical arrangements with thick electronic layers. I generally do not post my music for people to listen, but you can hear something I made 4 years ago for a personal art project here - *no* a beat: http://www.mano1.com/weird/sequencesystem02/ (read the instructions)
