I never really used the shift does any 1 know what that is? Also what is the threshold what does it do should it be all the way up when recording a song?

SHIFT is the key that lets you access other features on some buttons

for example if you press SHIFT and then turn the wheel, you will change the contrast of the screen

also and IMPORTANT: if you press shift and the < and > arrows, you will be able to set the SPEED at while the DIAL/WHEEL moves your START and END points in TRIM MODE (editing samples)

this way you don't dial for 10 minutes ot move the points to a point that is "far" into a sample

;) give it a try...

The THRESHOLD is just the level at which the AUTOMATIC RECORDING will start. If you set it to -50, the MPC will start recording (sampling) as soon as the sound you feed into it goes pass -50dB. This way the MPC samples "by itself" if you are on the other side of the studio hitting a drum into a microphone, or scratching or playing the keys (etc) - so you only need to "arm" the MPC (pressing RECORD) and it starts by itself when it needs to.

THere you go :)
