The USB may be overiding the midi into the mpc.
If you're using the usb as your midi port, you'll have to make a midi track in your sequencing software and send the midi signal to the mpc from your computer. Or try unplugging the usb and see if that works.

Not 100% on this but I don't think MPC samplers support MIDI through USB unlike on Roland samplers and a few other brands. USB on the MPC is only for draggin and droppin samples to and from you CF card/MPC internal hardrive and your PC hardrive. You gonna have to use them 'ol midi cables, especially for what I think u are trying to do. Mano's video from the link above should give you what u need and particularly the thread after the video where somebody asks how to use the MIDI controller through the MPC to trigger the sounds from the PC, so he can use his pads and his midi controller through his MPC to trigger his PC sounds. Mano be the man.

    Peace

I understand that you are trying to play it through keys, but if you watch that video, and you understand how midi in works on the MPC, this video shows you everything you need to know on how to accomplish what you are trying to accomplish. Hook your keyboard up via Standard Midi cables(No USB) and then follow the instruction on the video.

go to your midi/sync settings, one of the pad functions. There should be a "Soft Thru" option, play with that, not sure what all the settings are for but I use my 2500 and keyboard like that all the time with reason. Should give you the desired result.
