How does Madlib chop on the SP-303?

I've heard a bunch of beats he did his SP1200-phase, that were done on the 303, that had the sample all chopped up.. for example, on Fancy Clown.

How'd he do this? Did he just copy and paste the sample to different pads, and change the start/end points each time? That seems a little time-consuming, but eh..

he probably cut it into pieces and placed each sample on a key

that's what chopping and flipping is actually all about

But there's no cut function on the 303, afaik. You'd have to copy and paste the same sample to a few pads and change the start/end points each time manually... which would also be wasting resources.

    And that's why I'm asking.

or you sample it as correct as possible with only a little editing needed afterwards

or he used different equipment as well (i doubt he only used the 1200 and the 303, but of course i can be mistaken)

after you've copied and cut the sample you can truncate, much the same as the 1200.

just set your marks, select the pad, press delete and then mark.

TRN will then be displayed, press del to confirm. No wasted resources this way.

Yea, I know that much, but what I meant by wasting resources, is that you'd have to copy the same sampled chunk to each pad and truncate it to the bit you want..

Whatever though, thanks for the responses, guys.

ok cool, i thought it was copy chop and trunc on all hardware samplers though. Pretty limited knowledge for me however(s950, sp12, 303). How else is this done in hardware. Computer style point, chop and copy?
