well the mpc series is more of a drum machine style sampler and is a standalone unit whereas the s series is more studio. (hence the s)

I would guess for your use the mpc would work well. you can just loop a 4 to 8 bar section and just add stuff and tweak away.

I have an S5000 in my studio and it too has some powerfull features. more memory, expandability, etc.
Not to sure what the limits are for the mpc series though.

awesome!.....thanks for the information. i was confused because im reading alot about both and seeing both models in pop up in studio listings, but see the s5000 more so than anyother. I know i can dump wav files into an s5000. can the same be done for the mpc or is there some kind of storage...ie. cdrom?

if im not mistaken you can do the same. you may need a dedicated scsi cdrom to do it though. never used the mpc but for a minute. the only bummer about the s5000 is no pads for live use and the screen is so big that on the road it would probably crack.

you should also lok into the new Z4 and Z8 models... they seem cheaper, and the memory is expandable to... 512MB (!) of standard PC133 ram (cheap).
