Micron v.s MicroKorg (or other budget synths)

I'm interested in purchasing a small analog synthesizer, and would like to know which you prefer, The Alesis Micron, or the MicroKorg, and if you have a better synth which you prefer over either. I've already looked at the M-Audio Venom, and the Novation UltraNova, but I plan on purchasing from Craigslist/eBay (whichever gives the best deal) this also includes synths without a keyboard (I have a midi controller)

None of those are actually analog - they're virtual analogs, which means they try to emulate some kind of an analog behaviour - digitally. That said, the Ultranova is probably the best synth out of those, followed by the Micron (but the Micron's interface kind of defeats its purpose - you might as well have a great software synth, as that's where you'll be doing most of your patch editing).

I would defenitely go with the ultranova ! I tried it a few months ago, and the microkorg that was aside couldn't compete...

I bought a Microkorg in December, and I'm happy with my purchase but from what I heard the Ultranova sounds better. I would go with one of these two (it also depends on how much you want to spend).

If you can find one for a decent price, go with the Alesis Micron. It has a few more features that come in handy compared to the Korgo Micro. (40 band vocoder vs only 16 band with the korg is one to mention) Other features like preset patterns and even on the fly parameter editing are great on both of them. Actually from a personal preference standpoint, I like the layout and design of the Korg better, but looks aren't everything. Also another thing I like better on that Micron is the filters. Much better quality and to the best of my knowledge, has more to offer in that department. Cheers!

uI have a MiCrokorg but haven't really used it on a lot of my music, but I have sampled it some chords for basslines and synths,,it has good amount of sounds that are decent.I just think that it takes a lil while to learn, but of you get impatient easily like me, then, try something else,

If you are looking at the Novation UltraNova also consider the Novation Nova. The Ultranova has the cool software integration and a few other differences but the Nova can play 6 different sounds simultaneously (multi-timberal) and has all the important controls on the front panel ready to tweak.

And it's not as powerful as the above synth, but I love my Roland SH-32 so you might want to youtube that to. Great for pads and arps.

microkorg is my vote. its the most versatile for its budget that i've found
