I thought it was a myth that "people" actually believe what they see on TV commercials. You know, like that Jennifer Lopez uses/owns Harmon Kardon products, or that Steve Helstrip uses Cubase to create sounds when he owns just about every hard synth ever made...

You could download some awesome iOS synths such as Moog's "Animoog" or Korg's "iMS 20" and buy a camera connection kit so you can attach a quality audio interface to the ipad via USB and record the output into your main DAW...
The possibilities with an iPad are pretty huge and new developments are emerging all the time.

maybe for a bit of messing around with beats, but for serious producing stay a 1000 miles away from an iOS device

Ah I see... Try looking at TouchOSC to contol your DAW via Open Sound Control. OSC is set to replace MIDI with time as it allows devices to send and recieve MIDI data WIRELESSLY (hate cables), as long as they're on the same LAN.

Fully configurable interfaces on touch screens, with different setups for different uses / packages are the way forward!

Lemur is also worth a look... But it will set you back a fair bit more than TouchOSC.

I use a iPad for my production I've been making beats for 2 months now. I'm going to
upgrade to a Mac and logic next month. The iPad is a good learning tool, your limited with a little bit of sound but trust me you can make it happen. I use 10
Differnt apps BeatMaker 2, Music studio, Nlog Pro, table top, synth station, and others. Take a listen . I'm not the best producer ever but I'm working hard. SoundCloud : SamJonesProduction
all of the beats were made from a iPad. Not saying that they are the best but they are good.

    Cool Here you Go.

Check out Air Display by Avatron Software: Its $9.99
Description on App Store: (Ever wish you had an extra display for your Mac or Windows computer? There's an app for that! Air Display turns your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch into a wireless display, to extend or mirror your computer screen).
    Official Avatron Site.

If you also want great apps for quick ideas that work directly with your DAW through MIDI, My favorite ones are:

    DM1 ($4.99)
    - Amazing Drum Machine (Here's a great review for it: DM1 - The Drum Machine Review)
SoundPrism ($15.99) [There's a Free Version with No MIDI] - MIDI Controller (Official Site).
Garageband for iPad ($4.99) - Self-Explanatory. (Garageband for iPad Review).

    Good luck!
