Gonna Sell My SM58 Mic And Interface And Get USB Condenser Mic?

I've had a Shure SM58 mic, DMP3 preamp, M-Audio interface plus monitor speakers for the past 4 years now. I originally bought the gear to learn to produce music. I though it would be fun. However, i have put it off for years and when I did try to make music it was awful and I was forcing myself to do it.

I ended up using my mic to make video game commentaries on youtube. I found the mic to be very deep and have a lot of bass to it which made for horrible recordings. Over the year I did commentaries I tried different things. Talking from different angles and distances from the mic, etc. I ended up filtering out hte bass and uping the treble and mid through software to get somewhat ok results. I found it funny my video camera had better cleaner audio quality than the muffled SM58. I know there is a SM58 Beta mic that is supposed to not have as big of a problem as this mic and maybe I should buy that instead for my little home studio? But I was thinking to just get a USB mic and some normal logitech USB speakers and be done with all this audiophile junk which isn't giving me much benefit at all and probably worse results actually.

What do you think I should do?

    LOL

"It was awful and I was forcing myself to do it."

That's everything in life. It's going to take a lot of discipline and self mastery to be good at whatever you decide to do. Anything worth having/doing is going to be difficult. If it was easy we wouldn't have janitors or waiters.

I for one think you should keep them and tackle your dream like a 300 lbs offensive lineman. But if you're convinced that this isn't for you I might be interested in buying that SM58 off of you if the price is right.

No promises, but I "may" be interested.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

i have an sm58 and a condenser (studio projects b1), heres my opinion on both.

for recording sounds in a noisy environment the 58 is better as it picks up less background noise leaving less cleaning to do afterwards.
the b1 would be better for tutorials because it captures more room sound and has a crisper high end, saying that mine picks up everything from traffic outside to the computer fan next to me. not ideal for recording instruments in a home environment.

i think it would be better if you kept the 58 and get another mic and use both for particular tasks.
