    Hello Everyone,

I am new to hardware coming form software DAW's. I have a Roland Fantom G7 and it only has 32mb of sample storage room. I hooke dup a usb drive to it and i am trying to store my samples on there. i imprt samples and make sample patches and save them but they dont seem to save into my flash drive. I want to be able to store my drums sounds on my usb drive so that it does not use up my sample memory. somebody please Help.

Not possible. Samples used in presets are being loaded in the 32 mb of Ram not storage memory. Your best bet is to expand you ram to 1 GB.
I saw a girl texting & driving the other day & it really made me mad, so I rolled down my window & threw my whiskey flask at her.

You mean when you connect it to your computer while in storage mode? This is for importing samples.

If you are referring to the samples folder on your usb drive, this is where samples for a project are stored to be loaded to ram when you load the project.

Don't be afraid to add ram. If you go to music store and ask for ram for a Fantom G they will charge you an arm and a leg just because (over 60 to 100). I updated my Fantom's ram with 512 mb for only 14 bucks. You need PC133 168-pin unbuffered ram. It's waaaaay cheaper if you just search for that. Let me know if you need some links for this. Installing ram is very easy too.

yea i will most likely end up installing memory. I'm still confused about the sample folder and the samples that would be loaded to ram. that's what i'm trying to do.i have a project started, i imported like 25 mb worth of drum sounds but found 16 i wanted to use, didn't save any of them to memory. saved the song using write/song option. when i load my project back up shouldn't the 16 drum sounds i used in my project be loaded up as well? shouldn't those be the sounds stored in the "sample" folder?

Are you loading your project from the internal memory or your usb?

I would save the ones that you do use to your internal memory if possible because if not it's possible to try to use the rhythm patch you created and the samples not be there. If you are loading your project from your usb then the samples will be loaded into your ram everytime you load the project.

I am saving to my usb. I created a project folder onto my usb drive. Save my song into the project. when I turn off power it removes the drum samples from sample memory. When I load song from usb it does not load my drum sounds. Thats the problem i am having. The drum sounds are saved in the sample folder within the project, i verified that.

You will need to save the drum samples to your actual Fantom and save the preset your create with them.

I was wrong when I said they would be loaded with your project.

ok and by saving them to the Fantom there goes a chunk of my memory. lol. Ok, just wanted to make sure there was no other way around it. Upgrading memory it is then. can you send me a link to the one you used? Thanks again, appreciate the help.

You stored memory (50 MB) is not the same as you ram (32 MB). No real way around the stored part (at least that I know of. Only had the Fantom for a month or so.) Your stored memory is what loads your presets when you turn on the unit.

    1. Load your project.
    2. Import sample and create your preset
    3. Save your samples and creates preset

One of the first things I did on my Fantom was backup and remove all the bullshit tutorial samples that come stored on the unit. I also removed the others as well (I hated their sample kits, lol. Would rather make my own when necessary). Are you using your Fantom in combination with other gear or standalone?
