Is your internal sound card used when your using an audio interface?

My friend is going to be building a computer for me and he said I should get a good sound card because I produce music but I use an audio interface. The sound card is over $200 so does your computer even use the internal sound card when your using an audio interface?

My guess is that nowadays you don't want some nest-to-noise and fan and cooling and processors soundcard internally. rather Audio Interfaces have taken over and are not noisy internally.
