Totally Clueless...need help

Ok guys..here's the deal.....
I've recently started making beats....the only equipment i have is a Triton LE (which is perfect in my eyes)....
My old laptop (had it from 97) is on its death bed and I'm thinking about getting a new one..
In addition to work (occasional power point presentations, internet) I want to use the new notebook to make music.....

I have about 2000 dollars to spare...
What kind of notebook (manufacturer, specs) would u get....and what kind of software do u reccomend....(I'm interested in making hip-hop and R&B/soul/jazz beats)
