and i knoooww aaaall about the virus stuff on macs, i used to do tech support for mac we used to have baaarreee calls about viruses, ill def put some sorta virus protection on there...

alternatively, i might get the HP envy instead, i think they're about to put out a new one soon, anyone have any comments on that one?

side note... did u get a chance to check that track i sent u?

    yea i see u,

but my thought process was that i'd be getting the best of both worlds, mac osx and windows, i'd have the option of switching over completely later on if i wanted...
apparently theres no problems running windows on the mac so I wouldnt be giving up anythiing when it comes performance...

and then hardware itself is supposed to really well built...
the HP envy is wat I was considering instead but I keep hearing bad things about its build quality although I'm using the HP dv6 right now and i havent any problems thus far granted that thing doesnt leave my desk and I only use it for music...

but yeah im still tryna figure it out...

I agree with this as well. For the at least $1,000 you're gonna spend on a Mac the PC equivalent in price is gonna surpass the specs of that Mac by a longshot. If running OSX isn't your priority, I'd stick with PC. Windows 7 isn't a shotty OS by far.

Not unless you just want to use Fruity Loops in Win, but all other productivity and creativity applications in OSX.

In regard to dual platform performance a lot of programs actually fair better running under Windows than they do under OSX and the reduced performance seen under OSX is frequently used to validate the superiority of Logic on the Mac.

^^^Cubase is the only one I can think of. Not even being biased.

From my experience and from what I've heard from others, Pro Tools runs waaaaaaayyyyyyy better on a Mac.

Don't know about Reaper or Studio One.

If you look at the results of DAW performance benchmarks in regard to Pro Tools I would be inclined to agree with you, because although the OSX performance results are lower than the results under Windows the difference is close enough that once hardware comes into play the Mac would be the better option as Pro Tools runs almost equally well/poorly on both operating systems.

But benchmarks are not the be all and end all of determining what works best, after all comparing the notes of polyphony achievable at the same buffer settings under different operating systems does not tell the full story, I mean it's no good having all the polyphony in the world if your operating system works like shit due to the hardware you used to build your home made bomb.

Most people who speak against macs haven't even used one professionally. It easy to tell by the way they describe the "experience". The ONLY DAWs I know that runs better in WIN is FLStudio and Sonar X1, because they were built exclusively for the platform. Countless times I've had application windows freeze in Win7 and Vista for no reason. This is not a hardware problem, its the OS. I've never had a frozen window in OSX. Its totally unacceptable in media production when you can't predictably reproduce a problem. Like I've stated, you can build your own mac with the same parts you'd use for a PC. I have both installed, and my OSX install is much more stable on the non-apple hardware than Windows.

Even when cross platform programs are shown to perform better under Windows during benchmark tests, it's all for nothing if that shit is prone to sporadically crashing mid session, so long term reliability is quite important, but so too is being able to run everything you need without hitting a wall in terms of performance.
