    Mic/Phantom power/cable questions.

I have an MXL 990 w/ shock mount, XLR cables, and a little Behringer PS400 Ultra-Compact Phantom Power Supply. I am starting to save for a decent audio interface.
Until then I was wondering if I can power my microphone connected to my phantom power, and then connect the phantom power directly to my laptop using a XLR female to usb cable?

    Thanks in advance for feedback,
    Stu price

Yeah that should work fine actually. Though I'd skip all of that and put the money towards those things towards an audio interface.

I already have everything, but the audio interface and a $6 XLR cable.
It could be a month or so before I have a interface, but I could buy that cable now and start getting comfortable working with a mic and get a hang of how I sound recorded.

Definitely get the cable now and work on your technique and getting to know the mics sounds and limits. Then get the interface when you can.
