for god sake man...do not look for cheap...

look for quality...get cheap and you'll be paying more than the price of a new laptop every year in repairs....

799 nice machine now? or 600 crap with 1500 repairs for the next 10 years...the choice is yours

It is 2008, 10 years ago... Windows 98 came around, 3DNow! was released on the K6-2, hard drives had dma/33, Intel released the first celeron 266Mhz.

2008: Windows Vista, Amd has a quad core chip, hard drives run in SATA (not PATA) and have a 3.0GB thoroughput. The celeron is a dual core.

If you still had a laptop from 1998, it would be as thick as an mpc2000XL. Laptops were big back then.

$600 will buy a decent laptop. Maybe not a machine for heavy producing, but it will buy one that will run fruity loops...but you will have to buy a sound card, and speakers/headphones, because let's face it, laptop speakers and soundcards are garbage.

I have a gateway that has Vista on it, and AMD Turion 1.6Ghz and 1Gig of ram and it runs Fl nicely. I don't use it because of Vista and Lexicon hate each other. Plus the desktop I built has 4 gigs of ram. lol

Or you could buy a $1300 Dell and a $100 OSX cd and make a mac and Save $1100. Or buy a $1300 Dell and buy Windows XP and have a decent computer. Sorry, I don't really care to much for macs...personal choice, although...I must say that I haven't used them since I was a kdi because I am so familar with PC. Also, I don't like being tied to Mac Hardware. With a PC, if I want a soundcard, I buy one that I research and suits my needs, with Mac, if there isn't one that suits my needs, then I am stuck. But that could also be before the x86 support. That is not to say they do have their pros...the hardware just works because that's what it was bred to do.
