Help me decide: Laptop or Desktop

First of all, I know that a desktop has WAY more power and costs a lot less than a laptop. The reason I'm debating to get a laptop instead of upgrading my desktop, is the fact that I want to be able to make beats in places other than my room. I currently have a 12.5 inch laptop with an undervolted i5 processors. It's 1.4ghz with 2.3ghz turbo boosted. I'm wondering if the processor is too weak for producing? If not, I'm going to upgrade my current laptop to an ssd and add 4gb of ram (giving me 8 total) and just build a new desktop with the leftover money.

you're good man on making beats on that laptop
just grab a powerful desktop to finish up instrumentals more on the mixing tip because you make use some cpu draining plugs

how much RAM do you have on that laptop if you have 4 maybe double that to 8 or at least 6 that's what I'm going to do with the i3 laptop I have but I use it mostly for business and doing some instrumentals no serious mixing ....waiting on my custom beastly desktop build for that...

If you can afford, you shold definitely go for a new desktop. Laptops are good for recording ideas on the go, when a faster computer is not available, but there is no reason to use them for serious production instead of a desktop. It also depends on what you are mixing on. If you have studio monitors, would you take them everywhere with your laptop? Or your audio interface or studio headphones? If your laptop works well for the current tasks I think you shouldn't upgrade it.

I would wait until my craft is where i want it to be until i upgrade to a desktop and make it stationary. i would say this. Keep your laptop and when your ready get a desktop and have that in the crib while you take your laptop everywhere for inspiration.

How often do you take your current laptop down to the cafe or park?
