    Grounding Turntable?

    Hello all-
I recently picked up a new turntable for getting into some real diggin'. I initially plugged the table right into my m audio 2496 sound card... was very faint and had some hum... I did some research, learned how the RIAA EQ works and why you need to plug it into a phono preamp first. So I order a phono preamp off ebay- I tried hooking up the tables through the preamp to the soundcard---- was like the hum was the only thing amplified. The preamp doesn't have a ground and suggests that I ground the tables to a tuner/reciever ( which I don't have) or lassoing the ground wire stripped to inputs of the preamp. I tired grounding the cable to the pc / speakers/ preamp and had no luck. What should I do here- any ideas on how to make this setup functional? I picked up the table used and am unsure if it is the table that is doing this or wiring issues in the house or some kind of strange interference. The preamp definitely made the hum louder-- but I think it is just due to it amplifing everything. Please hjelp me out here>?>

Could be a ground loop , and they can be a ***** to cure !
Is all the equipment plugged into the same mains outlet , try that and see if it changes .

My turntable is an old Sanyo model and it came with a ground cable that is part of the RCA out from the table. I get the same humming noise till I ground it to the MPC and then it's gone. I would suggest trying to find a source to ground it too (whatever is closest- think outside the box on this one) and find a method to add a ground cable to the turntable channel.

Thanks for the replies. I changed some of the power wiring placements- made sure my subwoofer was plugged in another outlet. Also, ditched the ebay bought phono preamp for a BBE preamp that had a grounding screw built into the box-- major diffrence- sounds amazing
