X and Y Modulation?

Question:
So I've been producing on FL Studio for about 2 and a half years, yet I still don't know anything about modulation. What exactly does X and Y modulation do?

I'm guessing you mean in Sytrus?
It's not really any different from a normal macro knob, except you can automate two parameters in different ways at the same time. You assign one thing (e.g filter cutoff) to the X, and another parameter (e.g. filter resonance) to the Y. Then when you go to the X-Y pad, you can control cutoff by wiggling in the X direction (left-right) and resonance by wiggling in the Y direction (up and down).
