Shout out to REAPER users: using reacomp

I'm mainly posting this because I'm so annoyed with myself.
After using REAPER for 2 years and really struggling with compression, especially on drums, for a long time, I noticed this yesterday:

Reacomp has as slider labelled RMS. Now, I know that RMS measures average volume over a time period, so this is a very useful control if, for example, you want to bring up the level of all the ghost hits in a beat without actually changing the character of the individual hits and ignoring the main hits: you can use RMS to measure the level of each hit as a whole without affecting it's timbre.

However, by default, this control is set to 5.0 ms, which means if you set attack to say, 3.0 ms, then the compressor won't actually respond until slightly later and you get a little uncompressed click at the beginning of the sound under extreme settings.

If you are compressing using short attack settings on reaper, you should set an appropriately low RMS.
