Projects with waves 9.3 won't open properly with Waves 9.6

I had been upgraded to waves 9.6 a few months back, but recently I opened up an old project that used waves plugins from 9.3, when I open these projects I get errors. I'm guessing that Waves 9.6 plugins aren't backwards compatible? Can some please tell me is this true or not?

I believe it isn't compatible indeed. I read a lot about people having issues updating from around those versions (9.2 to 9.6) but I can't completely confirm it.
