Propellerhead Record - Recording Latency Compensation

Hey guys!

Been poking around the settings of Record a little bit, and was curious about the Recording Latency Compensation.

Obviously Record moves the newly recorded tracks backwards or forwards according to whatever the value of Recording Latency Compensation is, right?

Well how would one calculate what the Recording Latency Compensation value should be? Would I just add the "Input Latency" and "Output Latency" together and set the Recording Latency Compensation (god I'm getting tired of typing that, but I want this to be as clear as possible, so I apologize for the abundant use of the words) to that number. Example: if my Input Latency is 6 and my Output Latency is 4, would I add those together (10) and set the Recording Latency Compensation to that?

Or would I just set the Recording Latency Compensation to what the Input Latency is due to that's what's coming from the microphone (I assume)

How many ms actually makes a noticeable difference?
