Help needed... Ableton Live record from different inputs (Lite 8)

Hi there!

I'm brand new to the forum, awesome resource I just found eh?

I was wondering if anyone can help me out with what appears to be a simple problem.

I want to record from different inputs, that is, on track 1 I'd like to record say from the USB input and on track 2 I'd like to record from the mic/line in.

I select the USB input on track 1, but then when I select the mic input for track 2, it changes the input on track 1.

How can I select a different input on each track?

Using Ableton Live Lite 8 for my Focusrite.

I've got the Focusrite plugged into the USB port and I want to be able to record 2 different input sources simultaneously, each input on its own track. The other input being the mic in on my Mac.

No problem, I select the USB as the input on track 1, but when I select the mic in on track 2, it changes the input source on track 1.
 
You're basically trying to use two audio interfaces at the same time, the 2nd one being the one built into your Mac. Why not just hook up the mic to the Scarlett? Otherwise you can try creating an "aggregate device", which basically lets the system see the two audio devices as one, as described here.
