has anyone used "Magix music studio 7"?
I'm looking to buy some software and am interested in this product as:
1) it got a good review in computer music mag
2) apparently it is similar to Logic which is a plus if/when I wanna upgrade;
3)it's inexpensive
Please note I DON'T have the money for "pro" (i.e. Logic) software right now - money is extremely tight and I DON'T want warez.
I am thinking about Reason, Sonar etc but would really appreciate feedback on that music studio 7 software.......
thanks......

hey Jake, haven't used any magix products, but they look a bit too commercial to me..... I wouldn't count on it "being similar to Logic", except for the fact that it's a multitrack midi/audio environment.

There are other inexpensive alternatives around to get you started (and learn the tricks of midi and audio sequencing). Take a look at:

Fruityloops (full version $99)
http://www.fruityloops.com/English/frames.html

Orion (Pro version $99)
http://www.sonic-syndicate.com/

Massiva (licence $30)
http://www.webmassiva.com/

I haven't tried any of these to be honest, you should download the demo version first before spending any money ;) (and I noticed magix does not have a demo online)

This is not to put you off of course, just to broaden the possibilities..... Maybe someone on this forum has been using magix and found it useful?

Hi Tripton,
thanks for posting your views and links.
I'll take a look at Orion, I've seen the name but not read much about it.
I've had a dabble on a fruityloops demo, just made some beats and it worked well and pretty easily too.
I did have a look at a Magix demo (came on a computer music mag cd, I think) but I haven't gotten into it yet. Actually, it's not Magix themselves that are pushing it as a Logic-like product (that WOULD be dubious, wouldn't it), it was just mentioned in the CM review that the midi part was based on Logic and is laid out and functions in the same way. Of course I wouldn't expect the same level of performance or capabilities but the specs sound good and if I move on to Logic later I guess it may be easier to get into than if I get used to working in fruityloops......? This is a major factor in my interest in the Magix product.
thanks again.....
