FL Studio 10 - Midi/Event Editor w/ Sylenth1 Causing CPU issues

I recently started learning how to utilize the event editor capability in FL studio 10 with my vst plugins. I've been using Sylenth1. I've never had any cpu issues with the plugin before, however I recently started learning how to map MIDI controls to my midi controller and record these changes directly into the playlist via the event editor, where I can then make manual modifications in the event editor piano roll. I find it extremely useful to modify the parameters of the synth in sylenth1 regarding the lfo/cutoff filter knobs. My question is, is this way of achieving synth modification too overwhelming on the CPU? Is there a better way to do this in FL studio? Or is there something I can do to lessen the cpu load, as my program starts to freeze often, but only when linking the event editor to my plugins. Please help :(
