Yes, great for loops and samples, on the fly, clip launching can produce some interesting results, but linear Daws worth their salt offer the ability to repeat or arrange loops/ samples on channels in a similar fasion. Ableton offers both linear and Live DJ performance options in one package.

I will suggest Propellorhead's Reason. Even the old versions are still good if you dont want to spend much. I have seen producers make serious music on Versions 4, 5, 6, and 7.

Propellerhead Reason is mainly geared towards MIDI sequencing and very intuitive, and in my opinion VERY fun to use. Hardly used it myself, but Fruity Loops is meant to be pretty good too.
