What monitor size would fit my room?

Hi!

I wish to get my first set of studio monitors. My rooms is around 2,4 x 4,2 meters, around 2,2 meters high. It's also a bedroom, with little treatment possibilities (bass traps of only about 1 meter height; essential furniture, doors and a window blocking wall areas for absorption panels etc.).

Since they will be my first monitors, I don't need super-high accuracy, I couldn't reference them to anything except some cheap 1-2W computer speakers anyway. I'm thinking in 5 or 8 inch monitors and I also read good reviews about the 4-inch Tannoy Reveal 402. I can put the speakers about 50 cm away from the wall, but not much farther.

I produce mainly ambient stuff, so I don't think I'd need so much bass as Hip-Hop/House etc. producers.

Which size would you suggest for this environment? I'm considering the popular entry-level monitors (M_Audio BX, JBL LSR, Tannoy Reveal, Samson Resolv, Yamaha HS series etc.) I'm leaning toward the 5" but if that 4" Tannoy is good enough I will go with that. From what I've already read about the topic, 8" would be too much for such a room, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Small room? 5 inch.
medium room 8 inch no doubt.
Huge area like a hall or something, subs automatically needed and 8 inch might be fine for larger areas but speakers will get hot man.

Thanks for the answer; so would you rule out the 4 inch model?

4.5 inch monitors are still good if that's what you're asking, I'd worry about something less than 3 inches like a music bullet but meh, I personally do not go below 5 inch monitors.
