What is the difference between multitimbral and polyphony.

I've just finished reading a book by Paul White called midi for the technophobe . I do understand what polyphony is but I still don't exactly understand what multitimbral means.

Thanks for you time,
Engram

Simple definition:

Multitimbral deals with sounds/samples played across multiple discreet channels simultaneously.. So in other words, you can have a piano on track 1, bass on 2, strings 3, bass 4, etc.. All on separate channels playing back at the same time in a sequence...

Polyphony describes the maximum amount of notes a module/keyboard can produce simultaneously..

Makes sense?
