Sampler/Sequencer Or Keyboard First?

Unless your music is mainly Sample based, and you don't want to spend alot on a keyboard.

If you will primarily be doing sample based stuff, where you'll be sampling hooks & Breaks off existing CDs or Vinyl, or using mainly pre made loops, then get your Sampler Sequencer first. If you'll be getting an MV8000 or something similar, then your keyboard needs wouldn't be as big. You could get a VA and use it for it's internal sounds, and use it to control the sounds of the MV. Or you could get an inexpensive($500 M-Audio pro88) to control the internal sounds of the MV, which will cover VA, synth pads, leads, bass, and acoustic sounds as well.
If you are going to be getting something along the lines of an MPC 2000, or 1000, then you'll need a keyboard with lot's of sounds. You could go as inexpensive as a used Emu MK-6, or Roland JunoD, or RS-70, or XV-88.
But if you get a FantomS, X, or something similar, then you won't need the MPC/MV at all.
