Sampler : is it a synthesizer?

A sampler is a synthesizer that can only playback recordings of sounds to be manipulated on a granular level :O
A synthesizer is a sound generation tool that can create sounds in realtime, but lacks the ability to playback recordings :O
Hybrids can do both, like alchemy and Reason. To be honest I'm not sure of what a sampler can be classified as 100%
Putting synthesized sounds from thor into a sampler is another nice alternative as well

Basically it means that names don't matter, things are what they are whatever you call them. If you decide to call a sampler a type of synth, or if you decide that it's not a type of synth, it's still just a thing that plays samples.
