MIDI Controller with Manual Pad Colour Assignment?

Hi guys,

Does anyone know of a good midi based pad controller that allows you to manually customise each pad colour without relying heavily on an external piece of software, i.e. Maschine requires the Maschine software? Or actually. Does even the machine or say an MPC Touch allow for this level of editing?

When sticking to a particular scale or key, I'd like to highlight which pads I'm "allowed" to press whilst composing a song using the pad controller. I prefer a pad controller over a keyboard

I was looking at the MPD range from Akai but I think they are just backlit only.

I can be wrong about this but I think maschine might be the only existing set of pads that do that.

It's an expensive price to pay for such a small configuration - I don't even need the controller! Damn.
