Can clipping cause speakers to blow out even if the volume is set low?

I have a pair of older KRK's and the right speaker has blown out. Atleast i THINK so, the woofer has stopped working and all i can hear is very tiny high frequencies of whatevers playing.

I've never really blasted my music, but sometimes my tracks will clip when working on one but it never sounds distorted and usually my speaker's volume knobs are set low in the back.

So can clipping cause a speaker to blow out even if you dont have it loud as hell?

Blowing out a speaker could be caused by several reasons but the most typical would be playing the volume too loud through it. Assuming you were clipping as a result of having the volume too loud and not due to hardware or other reasons then you could potentially blow out a speaker that way.

It's also worth noting that it could also be the 3.5mm connector, I seem to go through them every few months unless I buy a more expensive one and leave it plugged in.
