Honestly a lot of cats are spam aholics but it works really well. I am big on getting in with the indie market and just informing them that I am there. I've found that if people know you are there and want to check you out then the battle is half way won already. I use all kinds of resources to do so. Twitter, facebook, myspace, forums, as well as real life networking. Hell my ex gf a few years back used to get me all kinds of work from her friends bfs who rapped.

Very true! i agree that half of the battle is getting artists to know you are there and getting them to take a second to listen to a few beats via myspace, soundclick or email. "real life networking" always seemed to work the best for me cause as far as marketing online i can never seem to do it good enough. But luckily ive met a vast amount of artists, managers and label execs. i always had a dick idea to sell there contact info to serious inquires but i am afraid my reputation would go down. I like working with other producers and definately sharing business cause every beat has its own unique sound from the producer. i learned starting in your city and producing the hell out of a few indie artists is a good start also.

not every city is great for that though. For instance I live in Seattle which has a very indie f*ck you outsiders we do what we want to attitude. Thats a big part of the reason you do not see many Seattle music acts out side of Rock in the mainstream musically. Its also funny because the fanbase here is super mainstream and then they complain about lack of support. If they made music people liked it wouldnt be a problem lol.
