Tensions or chord tones farther from the root of a chord that form a familiar shape.
This happens all the time, for example:
Here is a typical R&B voicing in G minor.
Left Hand: G
Right Hand(the upper structure): F A C
The Fmaj triad is made of the 7, 9 and 11 of G. It sounds good to the ear, because a triad is a familiar sound, so even though it\'s a more complex chord it is easier to hear.
This chord looks like a voicing for a G7sus
Actually, it can also be for G-11, just w/o 3 or 5.
