The Oscillator is the part of a synthesizer that generates a sound (waveform). The most common waveforms are Triangle, Square (+Pulse), Saw, and Noise.
The rate at which it generates each cycle of the waveform is what we hear as pitch.
Oscillators are Voltage Controlled (VCO) or Digital Controlled (DCO).
